Iso-butanethiol (Isobutylmercaptan) is a colorless or light-yellow transparent liquid with the smell of boiled vegetables and mustard. Slightly soluble in water. It dissolves well in ethanol and oils. It is a flammable substance.
Iso-butanethiol is used as an odorant for natural and liquefied gases. It is a component in the synthesis of cephalosporins.
